How to find your muse…

Ever get a creative block? Like with social media posts or emails where it feels like you’re just trying to stay consistent but end up not particularly motivated or inspired? So you post something you’re kind of into, but it’s more to post than anything aligned.

It happens to me sometimes, and I’m getting better at finding my way out of it.

Here are a couple of things you can do right away to get out of your slump and enjoy shooting & sharing with your audience:

  1. This was a genius suggestion made by Laura Scher that I go to a ton: shoot ONE image for you. What moves you? Makes you feel something? Don’t worry if the client will like it. Just do it anyway. (And yeah, these are usually my faves every single time)
  2. Get in a different headspace. Meditate. Drink a nice glass of wine. Try some breath work. Then make something. A photograph. A meal. A new blog post.
  3. Try collaborating with folks you like hanging with. It’s important you pick someone who lifts your energy. Then go on a photo adventure together. Style a weird shoot. Edit something together as a composite. Play with light or stars. Also, maybe, drink wine.
  4. Learn something new. Night photography. Double exposures. A new Photoshop technique or lighting set-up. Just pick something and try it and see where it takes you.

Below you'll find a few snaps from random, wild, BUT inspired energy. They are from different places, different times. But all are images I had a fun time creating.

There’s also a little more in this episode if you’d like to dig in and get creative.

Love & lightboxes,

This image was taken in late summer in Minnesota in someone's front yard right off of the main street. It doesn't have to be a fancy studio for photography to work.
