We all need help: about coaching

I totally understand how overwhelming the early years of growing a business can be. Most people give up in the first few years, before they’ve really had a chance to grow. There’s A LOT to learn, implement, and understand.

And it all takes time. Then, just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, the industry or tech changes.

These are the moments when entrepreneurs feel most alone, discouraged, not good enough, and ultimately, many quit. I get it, I’ve been there.

If you can relate to this even a little, then read on. I promise, having a coach or mentor is one of the most valuable investments you can make in yourself and in moving your business forward.

Even Oprah has a mentor.

I’m making an assumption, but if you’re reading this, then I’m guessing you’re interested in personal or professional growth. Jennings Photo offers a lot of education and support for photographers (no surprise there), and one branch of this beautiful tree is mentorships and coaching.

“I don’t need a coach, I barely have a business.”

“My business has been running fine, I don’t need to invest in extra help right now.”

“The internet has everything I need to learn, I don’t think coaching will help me.”

There are a million excuses I hear from people I poll about coaching. And I get it. It’s scary to spend money on something that you’re not certain you’ll get any value from. But if you’re really, actually serious about personal or professional improvement, having a teacher is vital. It not only speeds up your growth process by aggregating the content you’re seeking, but it serves as a powerful accountability partner, too.

We grow by experiencing life, particularly with other people. Someone only needs to be a step ahead in the learning process of any endeavor to be in a position to teach you something, and push you forward faster.

My graduate work is in education, so it seems obvious (at least to me) that I would gravitate to the work of teaching. I’ve been coaching, mentoring and teaching photographers how to grow, build, and maintain their photo business for over 5 years now.
